Why Your Pimple Patch Isn’t Working (and How to Fix It)

In the quest for flawless skin, many of us have turned to pimple patches as a quick and convenient solution for treating pesky blemishes. These hydrocolloid bandages, designed to absorb excess oil and promote healing, have gained popularity in the skincare industry. However, it's important to recognize that while pimple patches can be effective, their success hinges on various factors.

We get it, it's like Christmas every day when you wake up and see that oh so glorious white gunk on your favorite pimple patch. But feelings of frustration and skepticism arise when the results don't meet your expectations.  Questions like, it worked before, why doesn't it work now? Is it a bad batch? Is it a quality problem? Or why aren't these acne patches as sticky as before?  Don't worry, we'll address these questions and more.

1. My pimples are still there, why isn't my pimple patches doing anything?

Ask yourself: What type of pimple is it? Is it a pimple?

Before getting into why your pimples are still there, let's review the formulation of Avarelle's Acne Cover Patches. The key components in Avarelle Acne Cover Patches include hydrocolloid, which is a blend of hydrogenated styrene/butadiene copolymer, cellulose gum, sodium carboxymethyl starch. Hydrocolloid helps the pimple patch to adhere to your skin. Providing the problem area a moist environment to heal faster. Unlike many other hydrocolloid patches, Avarelle's pimple patches include other acne-fighting ingredients, including tea tree oil, calendula officinalis flower oil and medecassic acid. Which have soothing properties. The goal is to pull out as much gunk after all. You know that white stuff that appears when you take off pimple patch. All that pus (bacteria, dead skin cells, etc), sebum, and excess oil. All the ingredients, people with sensitive skin, dry skin, and other skin types of skin can use since these ingredients are meant for sensitive skin.

One key aspect that often goes unnoticed is the timing of pimple patch application. Patches tend to be most effective when applied to pimples that have already come to a head (whiteheads). If applied too early, when the blemish is still beneath the surface of the skin, pimple patches may not be able to draw out the impurities effectively. These types of pimples are called papules. What makes this different from regular pimples is, papules do not have pus to extract.  Additionally, proper application technique is crucial for maximum effectiveness. Carelessly applying or removing the patch can hinder its ability to adhere properly, reducing its efficacy.

What type of pimple is it?

Not all pimples are created equal, and different skin types can exhibit varying responses to pimple patches. Individuals with more severe forms of acne, such as cystic acne, or nodular acne may find that pimple patches are insufficient in addressing their specific needs. These patches are generally designed for mild to moderate acne, where the blemishes are relatively small and superficial. Individuals with oily or acne-prone skin may also need to incorporate additional skincare steps, such as cleansers or treatments, to achieve optimal results.

While pimple patches are made to extract pus from your pimples, it has its limitations. The deeper the pus, the harder it becomes to extract the liquids from a pimple. Think about a straw in a water vs a thick milkshake. To drink the water will take a fraction of the effort used vs drinking the milk shake. The flat patches are used to extract whiteheads, which are pimples that are ready to pop. Like the name implies, there is white pus peeking through the bump of the pimple. On the flip side, cystic acne and nodular acne are very deep and will take many pimple patches to pull that pus out, if any at all. Using Multidart Patches, it can lead to more efficient results, since they have needles made of the ingredients you know and love. For example, certain ingredients from Avarelle Spot Tech Gunk Out Patch. Directly injecting the ingredients into your skin. This means that you can see significant improvements with fewer patches.

2. My patches worked before, why doesn't it work now?

Ask yourself: Has anything changed in your life?

Pimple patches should not be viewed as standalone solutions but rather as part of a comprehensive skincare routine. Factors such as diet, hygiene, stress levels, and overall lifestyle choices can impact the frequency and severity of breakouts. Neglecting proper skincare practices or failing to address underlying causes of acne can impede the effectiveness of pimple patches. Maintaining a well-rounded skincare regimen that includes cleansing, exfoliation, miniaturization, and lifestyle adjustments is essential for achieving clearer skin.

Even so, there are other factors that can come into play, such as allergies. As allergies can come and go randomly, it is not out of the realm of possibilities. Every individual's skin is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. While pimple patches are generally considered safe, some individuals may experience adverse reactions due to individual sensitivities or allergies to the adhesive or materials used in the patches. It is crucial to perform a patch test before using them extensively and to discontinue use if any signs of irritation or discomfort arise.

 3. Why aren't my patches sticking? or Why are my patches falling off?

Ask yourself: Is the area around the skin clean?

Let's rephrase that a bit.  By clean, we mean at the right step of your skincare routine.  Similar to when we were explaining why acne patches are not best suited for deep pimples such as cystic and nodular acne (the water and milkshake).  Applying pimple patches on wet or damp skin can interfere with their ability to stick properly. Just the same, excess moisture or oils on the skin can create a barrier between the patch and your skin, preventing proper adhesion. Before applying a pimple patch, make sure the area is clean and dry. Gently cleanse the skin and pat it dry before applying the patch to ensure optimal adhesion.

To apply Avarelle Acne Patches, just follow these options:

1. Cleanse, dry, and apply the pimple patch.

2. Complete your skincare routine: wipe the area where you will apply the patch and then apply the acne patch.

3. Apply and complete your skincare routine. Wait at least 30 minutes until the products absorb into your skin, wipe off the area that the patches will go, and then apply the patch.
